The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Flöte e.V. is organising the largest international flute festival in Europe from 29.9.2023 1.10.2023. The festival venue is the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg i.Br. Visitors can expect over 100 performers over three days, concerts around the clock, exhibitions, workshops, panels and an extra youth programme.

The German Society for Flute is organising its first major International Flute Festival after the Corona Pandemic in Freiburg! The festival is a tribute to Aurèle Nicolet, who taught at the Freiburg University of Music for a long time and was one of the most important flutists of our time. For three days, the DGfF will host the international who’s who of the flute world. Soloists from all over the world are expected, who will not only perform live, but also pass on their knowledge in master classes. Historical and pedagogical topics related to the flute will be presented in more than 30 workshops and lectures. This year’s Composer in Residence is the Romanian composer Doina Rotaru. She has written outstanding contemporary works for flute, which will be presented and performed during the festival. In cooperation with the Freiburg Institute for Musicians’ Medicine and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, events on musicians’ health will take place. On Saturday afternoon, there will be an extra youth programme for 1016 year olds at the Fluteenie Festival with great workshops, handson activities and a microconcert. The festival will be accompanied by a varied inter national flute and sheet music exhibition. A wide variety of other programme items await the visitors, several flute orchestras will travel to the festival, prize winners and young talents will present themselves and panel discussions with leading personalities of German music culture guarantee an inspiring and creative festival atmosphere.
